Scandinavia Cemetery

HISTORY: The Scandinavia Cemetery was established in between 1891 and 1893 by the Swedish Evangelical Lutheran Church of Scandinavia now known as Erickson Lutheran Church. 

In 1885 A new Settlement called “Scandinavia” (aka as “New Sweden” or the “Scandinavian Colony” or the “Colony”) found its roots on the eastern shores of the Otter Lake..  The first church was built in 1893 under the direction of Pete Johnson on donated land which land is now the location of the Scandinavia Cemetery.   The church and cemetery were dedicated on July 26, 1896.

REQUIREMENTS PRIOR TO BURIAL:  

  • All burials including ashes require a burial permit and/or cremation certificate to be submitted to the Erickson Lutheran Church prior to any burial.
  • All graves sites must have a gravestone and/or a flat memorial marker identifying the individuals who have been laid to rest in the plot.  
  • No ashes or remains are to be buried in the Cemetery without compliance with No. (1) and (2).  

CEMETERY PLOTS: $210.00 for a 5’ x 9’ lot.  In said Plot, you may 

  • bury two (2) individuals in caskets ensuring that the first individual is buried at least 8 feet in depth so as to allow room for the second casket.  
  • In terms of cremation, you may bury a maximum of three (3) urns within said plot, each being buried 3 feet in depth and its location clearly marked.  
  • A plot may hold one (1) buried individual and one (1) cremated individual. 

A Family Plot is available which Family Plot consists of 4 plots for $640.00.

FUNERAL ARRANGEMENTS:  The following services are available through the Erickson Lutheran Church in regards to any funeral arrangements you wish to contemplate: 

SERVICES AVAILABLE:

Cost of Church Service and/or Graveside Service – $235.00

Church Rental for Funeral Services: – 

Sanctuary – $150.00

Basement – $100.00 for reception after service with no access to kitchen OR

Basement with access to kitchen $120.00.

Organist – $150.00 – contact Office Administrator

After Service Refreshments and/or Meals:
